Doctor Octopus, often nicknamed Doc Ock, is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics, specifically within the Spider-Man universe.
Otto Octavius, born in 1911, was a brilliant physicist and atomic research consultant. He designed a set of advanced mechanical arms to assist with his work, which were resistant to radiation and controlled via a brain-computer interface.
An accident during an experiment fused the arms to his body and damaged his brain, transforming the once-respected scientist into a megalomaniacal criminal. His first appearance was in The Amazing Spider-Man #3 in July 1963.
